Hemmingways style

October 30, 2006

Well his style had a huge life background to it like there was an easy to understand moral to it. It was really easy to read and it had a lot of thoughts going around in the proagonist mind and less dialog. I believe these are some of the thoughts that he had in his lifetime somewhere. His  writing has white lines in it which leaves open space to put your own memories into. He doesn’t really add any glitter to the story he gets right to the point without going into detail about the surrounding area or anything. I think he should add some more description at least in some places because it’s just blah without them. It’s the kind of book you wouldn’t remember just because of the description maybe because of the short to the point “Hemmingway” story.

what was hemmingway like?….ohhhhh

October 26, 2006

In the radio broadcast we just listened to gave a lot acounting his life in particular and his writing style. In the broadcast they said that he was a very bleak and to the point writer. He didn’t sugarcoat his story he just gave to the point stories making them a top item in the bookstores. I guess he was looked upon as an idol to all the yonger wanna be writers. Go hemmingway! Hemmingway states that the wrier should be driven by the writing not any critic or random person. He had a hard life dealing with depression and injury he committed suicide. I believe he did this because maybe his books did drive him over the edge. In the end he tryed to top all of his previous book but failed. But people disagree and state that he was the creator of modern literature. Critics say that he used few adverbs and had a bleak out look on life. Omition was the only way hemmingway gave out his fear. I believe his fear was of nohingness, and being alone. Some of his stories confront fear head on.He was 62 years old when he passed away on July 21, 1889. Was Old Man and the Sea an analogy of Hemmingway’s real being?

Oh sad day the Old Man and the Sea is …GoNe!

October 24, 2006

ok no offence to any Oms reader but the ending sucked. I mean gah i could write a happier ending to this. At least make me a happy camper at the end of the book but no  it leaves me with questions; especially about the lions.  Part of this book is about mourning , frusraion with the disasters of life because in the end the battle does’t end well, he losses and almost dies because of it.
“They beat me, Manoline,” he said. “They truely beat me.” Page 124

^ Isn’t this just sad when he says this because his will broke and every story needs a happy ending because in life there isn’t many of them thats why people write stories. That’s my theory anyways. I wish he was rich at the end and he was everyones hero not just the boy’s.

Hope and Encouragment

There is always another day just waiting for you after a bad day i’s up to you to make it good or bad. There are some parts in the story abou him having faith even though there is no possibility that this fish will make it all the way back to his home…though the sad days though his heart kept pumpping. In the end I was really wondering if he was truely going to kick the bucket or live…

” The old man was dreaming about the lions.” Page 127
Maybe that is his special place….with the lions…but seriously this guy needs to go the Wizard of Oz and get some more of that courage!! Chyeah.!?

courageousness from the cowardly lion

October 24, 2006

Page 106 in the first paragraph:
“Besides, he thought, everything kills everything else in some way. Fishing kills me exactly as it keeps me alive. The boy keeps me alive, he thought. I must not deceive myself to much.”

I believe this passage is important because if you really turn this idea around in your head for awhile it is true. I’m starting to wonder if this is foreshadowing the end of this book. Or maybe it will keep him alive? I’m not sure it’s all pretty frazzling. I just hope we finish the book to see what really does happen.

    Questions about OMS:

There was a question asking what personality is really his because he talks to himself but thinks the total opposite….split personality 101.  It’s quite confusing to read because you don’t really get the feel for the protagonist because he’s literally always changing his mind. Who knew reading could be difficult? Maybe he’s a psycho killer…DaDanaaaa! Why does he man always contradict himself? Maybe he has low self esteem because he’s emo about his life and he had a hard childhood, who knows. Sometimes during the book though he speaks out loud and I believe that is to try to convince himself that he is stronger than he really is, resulting in more courage. He should go on The Wizard of OZ and get courageousness from the cowardly lion.

IS IT CHICKEN OR TUNA?

October 18, 2006

Some symbolic symbols in the story were like the huge fish which is a swordfish. The old man is starting to see black spots and starting to get weaker but still he insists that the fish will die first….But i wonder will he die first? My theory is that maybe they will both die at the same time. Mr. Sheehy just read a line out of the book about the old man not killing the sun, stars, or moon, but killing the brothers in the sea..the fishies!
My quote was “He looked across the sea and knew how alone he was now..” by The Old Man and the Sea. The symbolism in that quote is probobly about how independent he is and maybe some more things but I’m not quite sure at the exact moment. But I will get back to you on that note. We also had to draw a picture so I drew the old man in the “thinking man’s” position in the skiff alone in the gynormous sea. In the background is the  fin of the wanna be captured fish. Tell me what you think because Mr. Sheehy is running out the door with my weird  picture. Enjoy kids! …*SNIFF SNIFF* POOR DOLPHINS!

Blog rhymes with pendulum! gah!

October 10, 2006

The declaration of independence was used to tell great britian how much they did not want to be apart of their government and that they would like to be free of the tyrancy. They pretty much specified that they didn’t want anything to do with them and if they came over to america that they would get egged infinately and tar them!!! But compared to my paragraph that i’ve written here theirs was way more elegant. They dissed them big time but in a very comely manner.*wink wink*  They considered the audience to undersand the extent of the  seriousness of the problems at hand.

My blogs are more for teenagers to read because it has up to date phrases and I’m not so concerned about puncuation and all that jazz. By the end of the year I’m not going to lie it will probobly be about the same, maybe alittle more adIvanced writting. Who knows… but for some reason i don’ believe it’s a bad thing because I’m really creative and I like to have fun when I’m wriing especially a blog.

The best part of waking up is folgers in your cuuuuppp!

No offence daily readers but there isn’t to much going on in the Old Man and the Sea book, I mean we only read a few pages a day so there isn’t 10 sentences to fill full of jam packed information and we all know that it is my specialty. So anyways I believe today I’m just going to look through fellow blog members blogs and have a hay day…

I Love Pink has some great articles going on in her site, she really captures the meaning in the book like the relationship between the man and the boy but some other articles are just short and sweet. She seems to pick up a lot of the small aspects of the book which makes a great reader. Nicely done!

Um .. mikes page is pretty cool. He talkes about what might be to come in the Old Man and the Sea. He notices that the hawk paragraph of the part we were reading might be a sign of hope and he also talks about some of the fishy parts in there…hehe get it fishy!?teehee
